How does solar energy work? Good question :).
The sun hits your solar system and the solar panels produce direct current. Next, the direct current is converted to alternating current in order for the energy to be usable in your home. If you have a string inverter, the direct current will flow from the panels, through a conduit, to your inverter, which is often mounted next to your panel box. The inverter will convert the DC to AC and feed it into your panel box. If you are using micro inverters, that conversion happens at each individual panel. Then, the alternating current can flow through a conduit, straight into your panel box. From the panel box, the energy your system produces will be used in your house, and any leftover energy will flow back out onto the grid. All of this will be monitored by your meter.
That’s it! Solar is pretty simple after all.
